A Well for Africa
This little well was made at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 76 Sudbury Ontario men's craft shop.
On Sunday, March 22nd, we put the well on the sideman's table in the Church for two weeks. The first Sunday, after the 9:00am and 11:00am services, we performed a short skit showing how important this well is to the village. Mothers no longer had to walk many miles to find fresh clean water to cook, drink, and bathe their children in. Instead, they could gather at the well, and while waiting their turn to fill their buckets, they could chat with the other mothers.
Our well only collects coins. Adults put their monies in the base of the well while the children put a coin in the bucket, lowered it down into the well, tipped it out, and then brought it back up for the next child.
We had a lot of fund with this little well. Proceeds were sent to PWRDF.
Peace Sunday - held September 20th, 2009
"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" Mother Teresa
Today we took a poem for PEACE from the PWRDF booklet, added some doves and enlarged it. A printed copy was inserted into each bulletin.
We purchased miniature white doves which we glued to a small rock.
Dove for Peace Rock - "On this rock I will build my church"
Reverend Anne (Germond) spoke to the children about being peacemakers at home, school, and play. The doves were placed in the shape of a "p" on the children's table at the end of service each child was given one to take home.
It was quite an impressive service. One of our teens read the Peace poem and our music group the Electric Kazoo played the hymns, and led us in song. The words for all the hymns were on the overhead screen. Erma Howe sang a lovely rendition of "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace".
Food Sunday October 25th, 2009
We in Canada are extremely fortunate to have an abundance of food. Today, there are breakfast clubs at schools, soup kitchen, and food cupboards to try to ensure that no one goes hungry.
So many children around the world are starving. You will notice this bowl I hold is empty; it should be full of food. Hopefully, we will fill this bowl with monies to help freed these children today.
Canadian Foodgrains Bank a partner of PWRDF collect grains and monies, provide advice and education related to hunger and food.
To make today more significant the bulletin cover is printed on PWRDF 50th Anniversary paper and each person received a bookmark with the 50th Anniversary Prayer on it as they entered the church.
Please be generous these children are depending on us and others like us.
