If you are wondering how best to nurture a sense of wonder about God in your children and grandchildren, then the Church of the Ascension is the place for you!  Our Sunday School programs offer wonderfully rich opportunities for children and youth to explore the mystery of God’s presence in their lives through storytelling, crafts, music, and more.

 

 

 

 

NURSERY CARE
(Preschoolers, toddlers and infants.)		   SUNDAY SCHOOL

Our nursery is staffed by our senior youth, who welcome the little ones each Sunday morning and provide a caring, safe and fun environment for them to play and learn while their parents are in Church.  The nursery is located in the northwest corner of our Fellowship Hall.   Our Sunday School classes are based on the One Room Sunday School curriculum, incorporating scripture readings, visual arts and games that engage this enthusiastic and energetic group in the discovery of God.  They make full use of the main space in our Fellowship Hall.   Our youth meet every Sunday morning to discuss Bible readings and their meaning in today’s world.  Teenagers have an opportunity to explore issues that affect their lives in the relaxed and informal setting of our Upper Room.
         
  On a typical Sunday, our pastor captivates all of God’s children during children’s time before sending them in song on their way to class. Before dispersing into the various groups, our Peoples Warden leads us in song, playing his guitar. It is a time of joy and happiness for all of the Sunday School children and teachers. Parents are always welcome to come and enjoy Sunday School with their child at any time during the service to ensure that their child is comfortable in this new setting.
   

We celebrate all special occasions through participation. Some of these annual occasions are: an Easter egg hunt; end of year Sunday School picnic; Halloween costume Sunday; bring a friend to Church Sunday; Christmas pageant and more.

Additionally we arrange outings, like a night at the movies - with pop corn of course, a friendly basketball or soccer game against another Church, or a bowling night. Remember we are always open to new ideas and value each parents input. In all of our programs, and everything we do, we are blessed with a dynamic team of teachers who help our children and youth in their faith development.  Our goal is to prepare your children for God’s world filled with His love in sharing their talents with others, through friendship and fellowship.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2010

 Every August the Church of the Ascension holds VBS for  one fun filled week.

YOUTH SYNOD

Youth Synod is a spiritual weekend for Anglicans aged 13 through 24 throughout the Diocese of Algoma. It is held on the August long weekend at Camp Manitou in Whitefish Falls and is a time for reflecting, listening, sharing and of course having fun!

Every year, the ACW group from the Church of the Ascension sends two or three delegates to Youth Synod, and everyone has a blast. 

CAMP MANITOU

Camp Manitou is located in Whitefish Falls, a short drive from Sudbury. Many of the Ascension youth spend time at Camp Manitou during the summer where they go hiking, swimming, and enjoy many activities, including prayer. It is a time to meet new friends, and enjoy one another’s company. Not only do Anglicans go to this amazing camp, but people of all ages go too. Camp Manitou is enjoyed by many as they offer a large variety of camp themes. For more information about this camp, follow the link provided.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

For one week in the summer, young children enjoy VBS in partnership with our neighbourhood church, St. Stephen’s On the Hill. The children always enjoy themselves tremendously, playing games, doing crafts, reading bible stories, and sharing God's word.
